Movie Review

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

You should approach with caution towards any movie that tackles the pitfalls and plateaus of adolescence. High-school coming-of-age is distraught with tedious cliché and too often written by people either misremembering their own distant youth, or a ghastly observing their hormone-unhinged offspring. On the surface, Stephen Chbosky’s film, based on his 1999 novel, appears looked-upon. It serves in acid trips, teen suicide, homosexuality, truth-or-dare. Actually, that does sound pretty accurate...

Like the average teen, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is often clumsy and awkward. Chbosky’s technical direction is scrappy, and every now and then the script drops a bummer (“How long have you been boyfriend and girlfriend?”). Yet there is something about it that just chimes. The period setting helps, making these teens as relatable to thirty somethings as teens themselves.

Crucially, though, Chbosky has cast his story well. Ezra Miller is lumbered with the ‘flamboyant GBFF’ role, but handles it with care. As ‘wallflower’ Charlie, Logan Lerman is surprisingly appealing. With Charlie narrating via letters to an imaginary pen pal we see his world unfurl into confusing, terrifying and amazing complexity, and even when his predicament takes a melodramatic turn, he remains an effective emotional conduit. Then there’s Emma Watson, all growed up and turned Transatlantic as the nerdy teen boys’ ideal girl. The American accent suits her.

An honest, affection-hooking, coming-of-age drama which proves that there is life beyond Hogwarts for Emma Watson.

Sleep Issues in teens

Teenage years are of utmost importance for your child. Chances are, he/she will undergo a spurt in growth and development. Thus, proper sleep becomes significant to one’s growth. However, your teen may exhibit some discrepancies in his sleeping patterns, which can be a cause for concern.

Sleeping habits that are common amongst adolescences:-

  •   He sleeps less, sometimes less than 5-6 hours.
  •    Once it is bed time, he spends time on the screen, completes school work, studies,      listens to music, calls his friends, etc. He does everything except sleep.
  •   The lack of sleep increases his lethargy, and he gets tired quite easily.
  •  Teenage academic pressure can also affect your teen’s sleeping pattern. The extra stress can end up interfering and reducing his sleep time. Academic pressure is a common reason for sleep deprivation and inadequate hours of sleep in your teen.

Remedies that may have some impact:-

  •   Follow a relaxing bed routine. For instance, have a bath and drink warm milk before going to bed every night.
  • ·  Keep your teen’s room dark at night. Lights that fall on the eyes affect a teen’s brain sleep cycle adversely. Advise your teen to avoid watching television at night, play video games, and surf web in dark hours since these activities release light that prevents them from falling asleep.
  • · Tell her to avoid loud music at night as noise can hamper her sleep adversely. Let her use earplugs or eye shades if need be.
  •    Follow a regular bedtime schedule.

   HAPPY BIRTHDAY APPA !

It’s My Appa’s Birthday today and as he’s staying miles away from me, So this year I planned to write to him. Well, What’s better than blogging.
So here it is !

Dear Appa,

On your birthday, and on every day, you should know how appreciated and loved you are. I am your daughter that was shy, was afraid of New city, New life but I tried not to be a trouble.

You worked long hours and weekends too and spending time with you was special. I wanted to be just like you.

I loved writing and reading very early and we bonded over that. I loved having something in common with you (other than picky food choices), and taking trips to the Grocery Store. I wanted to show you I was smart because I saw how people respect you.

I always tried my best in school and in life and tried to be a good daughter so you and Mom would never have to worry about me.

I loved the way you always gave me pep talks about how to deal with bullies. And later on, how to handle tough situations in the workplace. I learned many important people skills from you.

You have been a strong provider of emotional support my whole life. I don’t think either you or Mom expected that I would experience the challenges of living alone in that city, but maybe in the back of our minds, we all knew it was a possibility given the strong family history. And I have to say, I can’t even imagine what all I've learned through that experience.

I want to thank you for not letting me get stuck in my head. I want to thank you for coming to my doctor’s appointments with me so you could learn more about me and to learn how to help me. Thank you for not looking at me as “incapable”. You never worried that I would be any less capable of doing whatever it is I wanted to do. You always had faith in me.

Thank you for your never-ending patience, support, guidance and for always reminding me not only who I am, but why I am more than a girl.

Happy Birthday Appa. You Rock. Miss you ❤

          Guilty Pleasure

My sinful lips already committed forbidden pleasure,
pleasure that can never be revealed
Wishin’ to rewind through time of prevention,
while bein' deleted from my present...

As their bodies became whole,
Electrifyin' lights sparked within' each vessel
Formin' unique passion marks,
as our lips danced along each others skin
Like tango music,
Our sounds romantically spiced the room
With an agreeable minglin' of seduction...

The sweetest fingers roamed,
Caressed,
quenched my thirstin' physical needs
While spiritual sins are being created with a knowledgeable lover
Showin love and affection...
Feelin' lower than loam,
guilt drastically took its place as the aftermath
This romance jus' recently starting….

Why couldn’t I’ve said?
…Wait! Put those flames on ice!
This isn't what you will want,
Jus' hormones caught in the moment...

Lookin' back,
Wantin' to reverse the hour glass
This event could've been delayed until its rightful time,
With that rightful someone
But my sinful lips already committed forbidden pleasure...

TOP 5 MOVIES ON FINDING ONESELF

1) The Peaceful Warrior:

One Friend of mine said that many of the things I talk about on PE are similar to the film’s messages. So he shared with me his copy of the movie and I watched it. Once watched this movie is going to be on your favourite list forever.

2) The Family Man

The Family man is a comedy drama about a highly successful, single investment banker (Nicholas Cage) who gets to experience how his life would have been if he made a different decision 13 years ago (staying with his girlfriend rather than opting for a high-flying career). It’s a movie that presents a ‘what if I had done this instead?’ scenario and contrasts a life with great wealth and success vs. a quiet family life.

3) Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a 1994 American comedy-drama film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The story is of Forrest Gump, a simple man who comes from Alabama and his journey through life meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture, and experiencing firsthand historic events of the late 20th century.

4) Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is about an arrogant TV weather man (Bill Murray) who finds himself stuck in a time loop where he keeps repeating the same day over and over. The worse part? He’s the only one who remembers the past day’s events — no one else seems to remember anything! At first, he uses this time loop for personal gain. After a while though, he starts to evaluate his life and priorities

5) The Butterfly Effect.

) Another “sad” serious film. This is a movie of a man who desperately goes back in time to try to change the future for the better, with unexpected consequences each time. The butterfly effect is the phenomenon whereby one little action (the flutter of a butterfly) magnifies over time into a huge effect in the long-run (think along the lines of a tornado.
